Kong has been lost!

Yes, the new one.

I had it yesterday and I can’t find it now. Every evening all the toys are put back on my bed ready for me to take them out again the next day. Kong is not there. Now I know I didn’t have it outside so I bet they have hidden it as part of this ridiculous diet they have put me on. Well, I think it is ridiculous and I don’t think I am fat.

DB Chocolate Labrador

DB Chocolate Labrador

This diet is one my mum developed for Great Uncle Sam; he was her first Labrador and was black. When he was 9 years old he developed pancreatitis and was put on expensive medication. The vet said he had a couple of years at the most and she was devastated, especially as at that time she could not afford it. (The previous recession had hit everyone badly and money was very tight, even with a good job). So she carried out some research and gradually weaned him off the expensive medication onto her own recipes which comprised mainly boiled rice, fish, chicken and vegetables, all mashed up – not necessary all of them at the same time! He lived till he was 15 years old.

I now regularly have these concoctions but they are more of a way of making my complete meal interesting and she thinks they is good for me; I will eat anything though, not fussy. I don’t have tinned meat as mum reckons it gives dogs wind and it is poor quality meat. On this diet there are less biscuits; I do get chewy things though for my teeth and the odd treat in Kong. But as it is missing, I will not get any.
Zeus the puppy
Now, you have not yet been introduced to Zeus. He is a Jack Russell terrier and is just over twelve months old. He is very naughty but I like him. He is great on walks as we run together and chase each other but he doesn’t like swimming yet and it really annoys him when I am in the water; he stands on the shore and barks at me. I let him share my bed, but not my dinner nor my Kong. He did have his own little Kong but they had to remove it because I used to steal it from him and they thought I might swallow it.

Zeus is small enough to fit under their bed; I am not. You should see what he steals and takes under there. She has found pens, lots of tissues (stolen from handbag), a cigarette lighter, soap bar and toothpaste (both stolen from the bathroom – he can climb!) socks, shoes, pebbles and wood sticks stolen from near the fireplace. Now I do like socks and shoes but I do not eat them; he does! I just carry things around and tease them by running off so they will play chase.

I could never be naughty.

I could never be naughty.

Yes, Zeus can get everywhere. If they go out, the kitchen chairs have to be removed from the room (the kitchen is where we stay when they go out) because he can jump up onto the table via a chair. He managed to get from the table to the worktops and onto the stand-alone fridge once, knocking things off onto the floor. When they came back we both got told off; but it wasn’t me and I did not encourage him. Luckily for them, unfortunately for us, there was no food left out.

Now it is way past Kong time. Kong time is mid afternoon when they sit down for their afternoon cuppa, or whatever. That is when I bring it out for my snack. I like routine and my timing is excellent.

So, having run all round the house and still not finding it, I now need to tell them. Sit and look. Sit and look and paw. Sit and look and paw and bark. Oh, at last she has finally twigged. Well there is no point in asking me where it is you silly mummy; I can’t find it. That’s better, she is coming to look. Yes under the table and chairs, in the corner, under the sofa thing – no. Try the bathroom, no, office, no. Bedroom – you guessed that little **** has hidden it under the bed. He took my Kong and hid it; just because I can’t get under the bed.

Kong retrieved; happy Labrador. Treats please!
