Sand fly control

A recent field study in Italy proved that sand fly control by repellent and insecticidal parasiticides is an effective way to prevent canine leishmaniosis infection in dogs. The results showed that advantix®, when applied once or twice a month, yielded in a very high percentage of protection against leishmaniosis infection of more than 88.9% under natural conditions in an endemic area. Thus dogs were protected from sand fly bites.

A man takes his Rotteweiller to the vet.

‘My dog is cross-eyed, is there anything you can do for him?’

‘Well,’ said the vet, ‘let’s have a look at him’ So he picks the dog up and examines his eyes, then he checks his teeth. Finally, he says, ‘I’m going to have to put him down.’

‘What? Because he’s cross-eyed?’

‘No, because he’s really heavy…

A farmer had some puppies he needed to sell.

He painted a sign advertising the 4 pups and set about nailing it to a post on the edge of his yard. As he was driving the last nail into the post, he felt a tug on his overalls. He looked down into the eyes of little boy.

“Mister,” he said, “I want to buy one of your puppies.”

“Well,” said the farmer, as he rubbed the sweat off the back of his neck, these puppies come from fine parents and cost a good deal of money.”

The boy dropped his head for a moment. Then reaching deep into his pocket, he pulled out a handful of change and held it up to the farmer.

“I’ve got thirty-nine cents. Is that enough to take a look?”

“Sure,” said the farmer. And with that he let out a whistle. “Here, Dolly!” he called.

Out from the doghouse and down the ramp ran Dolly followed by four little balls of fur.

The little boy pressed his face against the chain link fence. His eyes danced with delight. As the dogs made their way to the fence, the little boy noticed something else stirring inside the doghouse.

Slowly another little ball appeared, this one noticeably smaller. Down the ramp it slid. Then in a somewhat awkward manner, the little pup began hobbling toward the others, doing its best to catch up…

“I want that one,” the little boy said, pointing to the runt.

The farmer knelt down at the boy’s side and said, “Son, you don’t want that puppy. He will never be able to run and play with you like these other dogs would.”

With that the little boy stepped back from the fence, reached down, and began rolling up one leg of his trousers.

In doing so he revealed a steel brace running down both sides of his leg attaching itself to a specially made shoe.

Looking back up at the farmer, he said, “You see sir, I don’t run too well myself, and he will need someone who understands.”

With tears in his eyes, the farmer reached down and picked up the little pup.
Holding it carefully he handed it to the little boy.

“How much?” asked the little boy.
“No charge,” answered the farmer, “There’s no charge for love.”

The world is full of people who need someone or somedoggy who understands.

Man's best friend.

Yep it’s that time of year, weather warming up so I now have my Advantix monthly (in the colder months it is given every 6 weeks) – I never have fleas, ticks or lice.  It is easy to apply – well if you know me you will realise I am not the easiest dog to deal with, so mouth end gets bits of food to keep me occupied – yes this is a 2 person job – whilst I get the odd treat at the mouth end, the rest of me gets treated with blobs of Advantix.  Sometimes I have to look round to see what is happening but then I can’t take my eyes off food so that distraction really works.  In the US you can buy it through Amazon.  In the UK it is prescription only, so pay a visit to the vet.  Otherwise Frontline is an alternative.

When they go out I must not encourage Zeus to sneak into their bedroom to play on THEIR bed. Pillows on the floor, a disrupted duvet and our toys seem to give the game away.

I must not sneak into the bedroom and go to sleep on THEIR bed, I have my own.

Zeus the Jack Russell

Zeus (pronounced Zeffs in Greek) is a Jack Russell and he doesn’t like water….ha!  He is my best friend, well no, I am his best friend, my mum and dad are my best friends he just tags along!
